Memento Mori

Posted on October 25, 2017

Leaves are falling, pumpkins are being carved, and skulls are being painted. Must be that time of year again. Enjoy your memento mori!

Inktober

Posted on October 23, 2017

Inktober is the annual October-long personal challenge to draw something in everyday. There is a prompt each day for artists, if they can’t come up with an idea for what to draw. I think Inktober should have at least one day for hands; I’ll be drawing them all month.

Grisaille on Glassware

Posted on October 22, 2017

I’m plugging away at the copper ad glassware in the foreground. I have still to put another glaze of white on the glass, so as to show where the highlights and reflections are.

Winsor & Newton Painting Medium

Posted on October 20, 2017

Ahhh! I started working with a new medium today and it is not working! I bought Winsor & Newton Painting Medium and 30 seconds after I laid on the nice crisp line of the book edge, it melted! I must have put that edge on 10 times to make it stay and it’s still gummy, yet runny. See that 8 Ball center? Not working according to plan.

My Grisaille

Posted on October 19, 2017

I painted the grisaille on my alchemist today. ‘Grisaille’ means grey scale, and I do use a bit of grey, but mostly I stick to black, laying it on thinner in lighter places so that I can let the white of my canvas shine through, creating a kind of brilliance from within.

Hands and More Hands

Based on my hand sketches, someone contacted me and commissioned a portrait. They’re paying off already!

Underpainting Finally Finished

Posted on October 17, 2017

My underpainting for ‘The Allegory of Post-Truth’ is pretty much done! Next I’ll work on the grisaille. I’m especially excited to get to the blackboard behind the alchemist and write on all the political spin equations!

The Lamp

Posted on October 13, 2017

The before and after of the globe and the lamp. My mother-in-law lent was happy to lend me this oil lamp and when she asks about how the painting is going she always says “Yes, but how does the lamp look?!” We joke that the painting should be called ‘The Lamp’ instead of the ‘The Allegory of Post-Truth,’ on account that she lent it to me. It’s the star of the show, so to speak.

Now Broadcasting on Twitch

Posted on October 11, 2017

Today I worked on the hat and quickly popped in the glasses while broadcasting on Twitch. For those who don’t know what that is, Twitch is an e-games platform where you can broadcast the video game you are playing, or watch other people play. It also has a “Creative” section where artists broadcast their work, so I’m giving it a try. Follow me if you’re already into it!
