Artist Statement
As humans, we are endlessly fascinated with ourselves—and so I paint people. Through my work, I search for archetypal meaning and try to understand what it means to be human. I am drawn to exploring universal themes: love, death, truth, beauty, and desire. I want to examine how we see one another, how we relate psychologically, and how those relationships can be complex, layered, and often messy.
I strive to tell stories that will resonate not only today, but a hundred years from now—stories that transcend the immediacy of our current political moment.
Storytelling is deeply rooted in our evolution. Stories allow us to imagine “what if” scenarios and help us understand our relationships with others, our place in society, and even our own identities.
As we move further into the 21st century, I aim to create new stories—ones not inherited from ancient religious texts or history books. The narratives in my paintings are original, and viewers must search for clues within the images to piece them together. Often the conclusions remain open-ended or ambiguous.
Chiaroscuro provides a powerful vehicle for the heightened drama I seek, echoing the emotional intensity of the Baroque tradition. I invite viewers to reflect on what the images mean to them and how these scenes might connect to their own lives.
Ultimately, my work is a search for shared humanity and our enduring sense of purpose.
